To explore the relationship between evangelism and reform in the United States during the period 1800-1860, in order to investigate the contribution of the evangelical persuasion--a religious and moral perspective which committed believers to an unceasing struggle against sin in preparation for the millenium. The women's movement and crusades against war, slavery and alcohol were some outgrowths.
