To study phenomenology as it concerns the nature of consciousness of the historical past. To apply this aspect of phenomenology to an analysis of: 1) the reader's perception of a novel as a fictive history with an implicity historical context; and 2) the novelistic narrator's consciousness of the fictive history he relates.
