To examine the conception of democracy held by John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. The emphasis will be on the inherent problems they believed might arise in a democratic government and how they sought in a theoretical and a real way to solve these problems. Attention will be devoted to the late medieval and early modern antecedents of democratic ideology illustrative of their thought.
