To explore in depth specific works of music drama and their literary sources in an effort to gain more comprehensive insights into both and to ascertain the complex interrelationships existing between literature and its music dramatic forms, specifically, the nature of the literary and musical dialogue, the relative importance of words in music, and the difference in stress, intent, and meaning as demanded by the nature of the respective medium.
