To analyze the position of upper class women; their upbringing and education, the marriage patterns of the great families, the economic power and the marriage patterns of the great families, the economic power and the jurisdictional rights of wives and widows of great lords as well as of abesses. The study will call attention to the contribution of women in shaping western European civilization at a critical stage of its development.
