To complete research and writing for a book on "James Wyatt and the Architecture of Romanticism, 1770-1820." The study will focus on Wyatt's relationships to the Midlands industrialist society of his upbringing and to the wealthy, learned society of his patronage. James Wyatt, architect to George III, designed buildings in a dazzling variety of historical styles and wa a harbinger of 19th century architectural attitudes. The study will be concerned with architectural history within a broader humanistic context--literary and philosophical parallels will be important considerations.
