To examine the poorly documented period between the trasition of Olmec culture into the Classic Meso-American culture. The study will consist of one year of examination of the art datable to this period (500 B.C.-A.D. 200) from excavated sites in the state of Veracruz (the original heartland of the Olmec during their apogee) and identification of similar works in collections and museum.
