To study the fundamentals of linguistic analysis: phonology, morphology, syntax and semantic theory; to work with linguists who are oriented toward field research on the languages of preliterate peoples. Emphasis will be upon sociolinguistics (the study of language in its socio-cultural context) and ethnosemantics (the cultural organization of meaning through language).
