Honan in the Chinese National Revolution

To advance our understanding of changes in recent Chinese history by reexamining the relationship bwtween Chinese rebellions and the Chinese revolution. A second aim is to explore other aspects of recent Chinese history as a first step in a larger project on the pattern of all of Chinese history. The approach to these two goals will through a thematic hsitory of the North China province of Honan, a cultural center from the 17th century to the present. By implication this study should throw new light on the role of revolution in our own history.
