FAIN: FB-12298-74

Ronald Inden
University of Chicago (Chicago, IL 60637-5418)

To examine the functions of kinship and caste in ancient India as revealed in Sanskrit text, inscriptions and coins. The study is an attempt to chart and analyze a cultural function as seen through the eyes of the people of that culture instead of composing a foreign cultural framework upon the analysis.
