To trace and analyze the development of the personality structure which emerges in England and France (and thus spreads to America and Europe) during the period which extends roughly from the end of the Renaissance to the beginning of the 19th century. To understand the human personality and how people came to be what they are will be to acquire a better understanding of the present human condition.
