To analyze in detail the origins and structures of Wilhelm von Humboldt's (1767-1835) theory of language, with special attention to the relevance of his idea to contemporary lingusitics and philosophy. This study will attempt to demonstrate that Humboldt has shown contemporary lingusitics and philosophers the path they must follow in order to understand the nature of the interrelationship of language, thought, and culture.
