To examine the furniture of early English Canada. Because of its resemblance to, and differences from, American pieces, it can shed light on the distinctive character of American work and on the larger process by which Euripean influence was transformed in the emerging culture of the new world. Furniture design reveals more clearly than literature or the fine arts the interaction of social, economic, and cultural factors.
