Eugen Weber
UCLA; Regents of the University of California, Los Angeles (Los Angeles, CA 90024-4201)

The seminar will examine high, popular, and intervening cultures of 19th and 20th century Europe, the gaps and bridges between them, and their interrelationships. There will be a broader reading of history, with reference to ideas from other disciplines: art, literature, folklore, geography, etc. Regular weekly meetings will be held throughout the academic year. Discussion will be based on papers or presentations of participants. A final seminar paper is expected.
