Study will focus on several examples of women (1880-1930) in Central and Eastern Europe who espoused socialist ideology (high culture). A Biographical approach will encompass how they came to this ideology, what social purposes they thought it would serve, whether it fulfilled them in their personal and public life. The study will examine whether the ideology addressed itself to the "woman question" and how these women as individuals and as members of women's groups were able to operate within male-dominated ideological movements.
