Mary D. Springer
St. Mary's College of California (Moraga, CA 94575-2715)

To concentrate on a formal study of a number of Henry James novellas whose women characters are of special complexity. Women characters in fiction have often been isolated for special study as interesting characters, but rarely or never for the contribution they make to the formal realization of some whold effect the story is building. Students at St. Mary's College, where applicant teaches, have requested a course in James but it has never been offered. This study will enable applicant to offer that course.
