The Aesthetics of German Expressionism

To concentrate upon the aesthetics of German Expressionism. Purpose of study will be (1) to define the aesthetic assumptions behind the art and architecture of German Expressionism and (2) to relate these assumptions to the developments in Expressionistic music and literature. Study will be divided into three parts: (1) A brief historical examination of the relationships between Romanticism and Expressionism, (2) A thorough examination of the new aesthetics behind Expressionistic art and architecture, and (3) An Analysis of the implications within the new aesthetics for writers and musicians.
