Research to examine the Beaux Arts Tradition in American architecture from 1880 to 1940 in terms of two related problems: 1) the general characteristics of plans and spaces in Beaux Arts architecture, and 2) possible relations between approaches to plans and spaces in Beaux Arts and Progressive architecture. The research will seek to identify distinctive characteristics of American Beaux Arts architecture.
