Ethnicity in Twentieth Century America

Study will concentrate on ethnic groups in 20th century America. Historians have only recently become aware of the continued saliency of ethnicity long after the immigration experience and apparent socialization into the American system. Writings on white ethnic groups in the 20th century by historians as well as social scientists and other commentators will be examined. Result of study will be a bibliographic essay and annotated bibliography of materials available in the field. By 1976-77, applicant will have developed a course syllabus and set of lectures on this topic.
