To research materials for a comparative study of the impact of the American Revolution on American life. Some of the questions to be resolved include: Was there a shared revolutionary ideology? To what extent was the basis of authority changed? Was violence felt equally? Did the structure of the family change? What was the role of submerged classes and ethnic groups? What types of institutional changes resulted? The social sciences, particularly sociology and social psychology, provide effective means for interpreting the physical and psychological impact of the American Revolution.
