The Premise of Equality in Small-Scale Societies

FAIN: FB-12552-75

Kathleen Adams
Loyola University, Chicago (Chicago, IL 60611-2147)

To investigate the interface between equality and inequality in small-scale societies. Such societies are associated with small population size and combination of hunting, gathering, and horticultural subsistence patterns. Special reference will be made to low-land South American small-scale societies including more traditional as well as acculturated groups. Attention will be given to the emergence and tenure of inequality and competition that is intraspecific and intrapopulational.
