A Critical Edition of Le Marquis de Fayolle by Gerard de Nerval

To undertake a critical edition of Gerard de Nervals historical novel, le Marquis de Fayolle. This project would study in detail Nerval's use of history, his modification of his sources and the meaning of the historical events the French counter-revolution in the thematic structure of the novel. This study would probe the complex relationship between history and literature. Topics would be studied in French history as they relate to the literature, thought, values and spiritual orientation of the 19th century.
