‘ An analysis of the leading historiographical schools and the leading individual historians who have written on the American Revolution over the past two centuries. To read and reread all the major works on the American Revolution try American historians from the time of the Revolution to the present. Problems to be investigated will include the validity of traditional schools of interpretations on the Revolution, the role of personal background and climate of opinion in determining historical interpretations, the rise of fall of history as literary art over two centuries, and the development of professionalization in American historiography since the end of the 19th century
