To study in German prose fiction, the theory of the novel as seen in the light of recent developments in the field of semiotics in particular and of hermeneutics in general. Some of the authors to be studied include: Roman Jakobson, Roman Ingarden, Kate Hamburger, Roland Barthes, and Husserl.
