A proposed hook to consider some attempts to give a physiological account of "intentional" behavior. The purpose of the book is to critically consider the work of such contemporary thinkers as W.V. Quine and D.C. Dennet in the light of Merleau-Ponty's criticisms of attempts to give physiological accounts of "intentional" behavior. The book will conclude with an attempt to outline in a tentative way the direction that must be pursued if a coherent account of mental phenomena is to be found.
