To explore the literary and artistic sources which influenced Hans Henny Jahnn's concept of Utopia in the novel Ugrino and Ingrabanian. Also under investigation will be the Expressionistic painting and Baroque music which seem important to Jahnn's utopian theories. Project will also examine the reception of German exile literature in the United States. There will be an investigation of why Mann, Werfel, and Feuchtwanfer were well received and other literary notables like Brecht and H. Mann were not well received.
