To study revolutionary movements and revolutions (Europe 1789-1917). To add a cultural dimension to what has been mainly a sociological and political discussion. Three areas will be studied in depth; 1) a of the origins of the European revolutionary tradition 2) the development of the revolutionary tradition and, 3) a discussion: of the decline and fragmentation of the tradition that becomes apparent in 1848.
