The Mother in Latin Literature

FAIN: FB-12656-75

Jane E. Phillips
University of Kentucky (Lexington, KY 40506-0001)

This is a study of the mother in Latin Literature. An examination will be made of why a civilization and its spokesmen in literature, overwhelmingly male, perceive woman as mother and the relationship between mother and children. An attempt will be made to understand the application of psychological (mainly psychoanalytic) theory to literature, and of psychological, anthropological, and sociological approaches to mythology.
