Continuation of a study of the metaphor of "depth." A descriptive survey of how the words "deep" and "profound" are used, simply a catalogue of linguistic facts. To answer the question of when and why we reach for these words. Study will progress from its present stage-- an exercise in the history of ideas--to a more expository form, starting with the "depth" psychology of S. Freud.
