To study the application of linguistics and rhetorical theory to the communication needs of career and vocational students by developing a theoretical basis from which effective teaching strategies can be developed to make English composition a meaningful, humanistic experience for career oriented students as well as to formulate an approach to literature which will both interest the career student and engage the student in ethical and value judgments.
