To discover if literature can be treated as part of a student's "way of being in the world", work will be done in 3 areas: aesthetics, to build a frame of reference; the literature of cultures other than Euro/American; and the mythic and folk culture of America, to discover if there are aesthetics that differ from present forms of teaching.
