To study the revolutionary tradition in American literature from the Declaration of Independence to the present, from 1776-1976 by completing an extended project on American literary radicals and calling attention to similarities in the language of literary radicals before the Revolution and later radicals as well as exploring other characteristics shared by poets and pamphaleteers in the revolutionary period and selected writers up to the present.
