To study the cultural reactions of the traditional rural world to the industrialization and urbanization of British society. Using Carlyle, Cobbett and Owen as illustrative of the romantic, the traditional, and the utopian socialist traditions, respectively, the study would attempt to study ways in which the cultural traditions of the rural world responded to the changes in attitudes and values brought about by industrialization.
