To formulate several humanistic community models which will l) identify the major and minor cultural traditions associated with American community types; 2) constitute orderly heuristic devices for studying communities, and 3) provide research strategies for actual field studies of communities, which will in term constitute the bases for the reformulation and improvement of the models.
