Study has four objectives: 1) to gain a better understanding of social and historical change in American society: 2) to apply sociological and demographic concepts to historical data; 3) to check sociological and demographic theory against historical data; and 4) to gain a better understanding of the historical development of sociology. Four extensive papers will be written on four research topics, all of which centralize around an extensive study of the Progressive Movement. Biographical and studies of middle-class reformers and studies of Progressive ideologies will be researched.
