To analyse Cervantes' use of irony in the Quixote. After a program of intensive reading in Cervantine criticism and on the concept of irony itself. PI will study particularly the degree to which irony, besides functioning as a corrective for individual follies, seems to define the human condition. PI hopes to clarify the extent to which the so-called perspectivist interpretation of the Quixote can be applied in describing the work's attitudes towards religious and state institutions.
