Russian Neoprimitivism and Its Sources

FAIN: FB-13280-77

Sarah Burke
Trinity University (San Antonio, TX 78212-4674)

To explore Russian neoprimitivism and its sources and to consider the "broader question: how and why did artists depend on other art as a model. Neoprimitivism is an artistic movement which clearly depended on previous artistic tradition, namely folk art and French art. PI will isolate the particular sources, to determine how they were used by the artists and to define the relationship between the Russian neo-primitivists and the corresponding Western European movements.
