My research redefines colonialism in the urban context as a form of everyday practice, exploring the tensions between ideologies of rule and the actual imprint of British colonialism on the ground (using urban planning, architecture, and designs on the city as framework). This sociospatial analysis promises to open new ground in historical anthropology, urban studies, and the cultural analysis of colonialism in Africa, arguing that colonial power was far less efficacious and encompassing than is currently imagined.
