The American Professor: A Case Study in the Rise of Soviet Intelligence Abroad

FAIN: FB-52023-05

Andrew Seth Meier
Unaffiliated Independent Scholar (Brooklyn, NY 11231-0000)

This project, my second book, will be a narrative history--told through the life of one American--of the rise of Soviet intellingence in the West in the years following the Bolshevik Revolution. This history, much of it unknown even among Western scholars of Soviet history, is not only intriguing, but illuminating. The advent of Moscow's global intelligence network presaged America's present threat, the rise of Al Qaeda. This work will draw on previously unpublished materials from the Soviet and U.S. archives. It will also demand intensive research at the Library of Congress Manuscript Room, the richest repository, outside Moscow, of documents pertaining to the early days of the American Communist Party.
