Barbara B. Heyman
CUNY Research Foundation, Brooklyn College (Brooklyn, NY 11210-2850)

A descriptive thematic catalog of the complete works of Samuel Barber is in progress and during the grant period will be completed for publication. The catalog will enable scholars, performers, conductors, and composers to engage in analytic study of Barber's music, trace his compositional process, gain insight into his performance intentions, and locate mss. of published and unpublished works. Entries include incipit(s)and information on text source (for vocal works); ensemble specifications; origin of work; first performance; first editions, arrangements, and revisions; duration; historic recordings; and sources (holographs, fair copies, copyist scores, publisher's proof, and editions with notations in Barber's hand).
