"Terror on Record in the Soviet Union: The History of the Chronicle of Current Events" will describe a unique phenomenon in the history of the Soviet Union: during fifteen years, from 1968 to 1983, human rights activists published underground records of multiple cases of abuse of human rights under the communist regime. The book will include three components: a) the history of The Chronicle of Current Events; b) stories of activists who risked incarceration and psychiatric prisons; c) the history of government repression against them. Primary sources for this book will include interviews with the human rights activists, documents from human rights archives in Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kiev, Vilnius (Lithuania), Riga (Latvia), Tallin and Tartu (Estonia), as well as documents from the Russian State Archives. The author acted as the literary editor of the Chronicle of Current Events between 1975-1980, and his intention is to contribute his personal experience to the project.
