Faculty development program to provide opportunity for English Department at Texas Southern University to develop more productive means of teaching freshman English to socially and economically deprived students, ill-equipped for college work. Additional goal to develop for higher education a methodology for administering to the full range of cultural, academic and social needs fo students. To this end, expert consultants will conduct four-day Fall workshop of in-service training to guide Texas Southern's faculty in new techniques of motivation and presentation in the teaching of writing, rhetoric, language, and literature. This will be followed by two-day Spring workshop dealing with media, methods, materials and curriculum organization. Funds consultants' fees, travel, per diem, materials.
