To research native born and foreign-born wage earners in ante-bellum Philadelphia. The study will concentrate on the 1840s, when numerous native-born Protestant enrolled in the American Republic party, a nativist party that controlled many boroughs in suburban Philadelphia from 1845 to 1853.
