To study the religion of the Coast Salish Indians viewed from both a synchronic and diachronic dimension. The historical part of the proposed investigation will be a full comparative study of the pre-contact religious system. The synchronic study will focus on the reinterpretation of the earlier symbols and the synthesis of native and Christian symbols into a coherent modern system.
