To consider in detail fifteen or sixteen of Shakespeare's major plays, representative of his development as a theatre artist. Emphasis will be placed upon his growing understanding to techniques of chracterization for the stage, his use of various sorts of narrative and plot materials as appropriate for transferral to theatrical terms, and his gradual evolution of specific forms of drama congenial to the requirements of these devices of characterization and plotting.
