To examine the history of American politics and political parties as an enduring conflict of various cultural groups rather than as a conflict based purely on economic class and interest. Studying the major period of American political movements in this light, participants will see that in the Revolutionary and early national years, a cultural pattern in politics emerged, shaping the two parties in a form and nature which have continued into the present.
