To do a book length study designed to integrate and extend the results of previous work on the theoretical and practical study of the composing process among so-called Basic Writers. Book will describe the bridge between rhetoric and criticism. Study will move from the pragmatic environment of the classroom to the larger theoretical and social issues that form the living context within which rhetorical structures are created and discovered. Research in this creative process, both in artists and beginners will develop an integrated program for the teachers of writing that will reflect humanistic values as well as scientific knowledge of language.
