To do a three-fold, interrelated project: I. Imagery of the Industrial Revolution in England: Visual and Verbal texts. II. to continue study of aesthetic theory by reading the principal art treatises of the 19th century; and, 3.Tracing the imagery of 18th century political revolutions (uncontrolled energy and the mob, exaggerated and satiric literalism, grotesquerie, enclosure/oppression vs. release/liberation, etc.) into the context of the Industrial Revolution.
