Women in Town and Country, France and England, 1660-1700

To compare rural women in France and England during the last 4 decades of the 17th century. The study will explore the various roles of women in the pre-industrial economy, their responsibilities, occupations and employability. Their responses to aging, poverty, wealth, religion, illegitimacy will be investigated. Their enjoyment of family functions, education, leisure and pastimes will be evaluated.
