To work out the idea that poetry is an act of creation in which the reader can participate by performing his individual sense of it. Two questions will guide this study: 1) what is the function of art and the value of reading in a society which encourages passive absorption of entertainment rather than active reaction to individual works of art?, and 2) what kinds of knowledge and sensitivity are necessary in order to teach such an active response to art?
